Roading Submission

The Mount Victoria Tunnel Duplication Project, currently proposed by New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) will have a large impact on Kilbirnie School.

We are concerned that moving all access from Hataitai to the main highway on Ruanine Street via Goa Street will impact on the ability for us to drop off and pick up children safely (by car and foot), and also about the extra lanes being added to the intersection of Hamilton Road and Wellington Road, which will make access from Kilbirnie to our school more difficult.  We will have a six-lane highway going through the middle of our school zone, and running between the school and most of the council’s sporting and recreational facilities with just a ‘green man’ to keep us safe.

Please see our initial submission to NZTA in Kilbirnie School Submission Regarding the Proposed Changes to Ruahine Street and Other Kilbirnie/Hataitai Streets.

Our Board of Trustees summarized its concerns in a letter to NZTA in February 2014: Kilbirnie School Letter to NZTA.

Here is the April 2014 Roading Response from NZTA.
