Soldiers Visit

Today, Freddie's (Room 4) Uncle Andrew and his colleague Dale who are soldiers in the New Zealand army visited us.

They told us about their medals which were given for different campaigns as well as length of service.

They also answered questions from the students about a range of current and historic army and war topics.  Andrew and Dale told us the kinds of things that the Army are involved in now e.g. Peacekeeping, and helping disaster relief efforts especially in the Pacific, doing United Nations work all over the world.

Andrew shared with us some of his family treasures.

He showed us the medals his relative had received when he was in the army, as well as a Gallipoli medal and a brass tobacco tin that every soldier was given in WWI.

This was an interesting visit and we learnt a lot.  Thanks!
