End of school year

We've worked hard, we've struggled and grown and now it is time to relax! School will break for the year on Thursday 19 December at 1pm. We hope you have a great summer and see you all next year on Wednesday 5 February at 9am.

Get your pool key

School pool keys can be hired from the office, from Monday December 9th until the end of term only.

We will again offer pool keys to members of our school community this summer. These will be available to parents of Kilbirnie School students through the school office from Monday December 9th. Keys cost $90. There is a $10 refund when the key is returned at the end of the season.

Any remaining keys will be available for members of the wider community to hire from Monday December 16th.

Ngake Hub Christmas Party

The world famous Ngake Hub Christmas Party is on again this year. If your child is in Rooms 1, 3 or 4, please bring a plate of food to share. We've heard that a special visitor will come for a short visit, ho ho ho.

Certificate Assembly

Pack the Bus City Mission

Once again our school has decided to be involved in Go Pack the Bus for the Wellington City Mission as part of our term CARE value of Empathy. On Tuesday 3 December, a bus will arrive and our children will place their bought toy/product on the bus to help fill it.

Christmas items: Christmas mince pies and puddings, jelly, tinned fruit, Christmas crackers and confectionary.

Toys (new and unwrapped): Lego; art equipment, educational books, puzzles, sports gear and board games.

Extras: Toiletries for adults and teenagers, hair products.

Market Night Friday 29 November

Market Night is on Friday 29 November, 4.30 to 7pm.

Spread the word amongst your friends, family and neighbours - this event is open to the public and is a great way to grab dinner and be part of the Kilbirnie School community. The more the merrier!

No plastic lunch day

Please support the No Plastic Lunch Day on Wednesday December 4th.

Matairangi hub has been focussing on sustainability as part of our inquiry. Grace, Freya and Mere have chosen a project so we can help save the planet. They would like as many Kilbirnie students as possible to avoid single-use plastics in their lunches.

We had terrific team that represented the school at the Eastern Zone Athletics event. The following students finished in the top 4 for their year group. Students in the top 3 will represent the Eastern Zone schools at the Interzone event. Well done!

Reunification drill

An important event will take place on Wednesday November 13th: a reunification drill during which students will be collected from school by a parent of adult named as an emergency contact. We will start with an earthquake drill and then move to the hall to start the process of releasing students at 1.30pm. On Tuesday next week you will receive a document to update your contact details including the emergency contacts who will be permitted to collect your child or children during this reunification drill. A letter with more detailed information about the drill will be included with this.

Sunhats needed every day in Terms 1 and 4

With Summer approaching, please ensure that your child has a sunhat with them every day. We have a "no hat, no play" rule. Children with no hat will have to play in a shaded area.

Caps are still accepted this term, but from next year, only wide brimmed hats will be allowed.

Children's art calendars

Earlier in the week your child was given an order form to take home with a unique code allowing you to view and order their personalised products online. These products make wonderful Christmas gifts and lovely keepsakes. Orders close on Tuesday the 29th of October at 9am.

Athletics Day

Thursday 24 October at Newton Park, 9am-12pm for Year 0-2, 9am-2pm for Year 3-6.

Year 0-2 students will rotate around fun activities, which include an element of running, jumping and throwing.

Year 3-6 students will rotate around athletics based activities including sprints, quoits and vortex throwing, long jump and high jump. The results from these events will be used as a qualifier for the Eastern Zone Athlectics team for Year 4 and above.

Children will need suitable footware, warm clothing, a sunhat and sunscreen, as well as morning tea, lunch and a BIG drink. Please apply sunscreen before arriving at school too.

If you are free, come and watch your children competing and having fun!

Choosing Friday

Our school-wide enrichment programme, Choosing Friday, will start in week 2, on Friday 25 October. This is a great opportunity for children to be exposed to something new and that they are personally interested in. There is a great range of activities to choose from and each workshop will run for a period of 6 weeks.

We're on for our big art weekend! Come and bid on professional art, admire our students' art pieces and bid on classroom pieces.

Ora wouldn't have happened without Kylie Murrle who edited the book and without Nanny Ora to whom the book is dedicated. From us all, a big big thank you to them both.

Art Te Aroha

Don't miss our exciting art weekend!

It will start on Friday 6 September with an auction of art by professional artists at 7pm. Adults only event. The book Ora, written and illustrated by our amazing Kilbirnie School students will also be launched.

Then come for the Family Day on Saturday 7 September, 11am-1pm, when children's artwork, the book Ora and any unsold art piece will be available for sale. Koha entry and sausage sizzle.
